Planting

is easy with the EarthWay planter!
My husband purchased it several years ago for me.
I love it!
You can find more info here.
I planted the Saturday before Mother's Day. It was a beautiful day to be out & the dirt felt wonderful between my toes.
Every year I have big dreams for my garden, this year was no exception. I am laughing now, because, there is no way I will be able to keep it weed free this summer. Tilling is pretty much out for this pregnant mama. The funny thing is, I don't really care. Weeds or no weeds, we will still have yummy produce to eat.

I planted Sweet Corn for fresh eating & Indian Corn, wellllll because it looked fun.
My dad plants a couple acres of sweet corn for us to freeze each year, my measly row of sweet corn won't provide much for my hungry tribe of sweet corn lovers, but it will satisfy a few meals.
Every year when I plant,
I doubt
I question

Will those little tiny seeds really sprout?
Will they grow into plants that produce?
Year after year, I get the same results...
about 10 days later, little green flecks start to line my garden.
Why do I doubt?
Because I can't see what is taking place in the seed under the ground.
I don't understand what happens as the soil houses the seeds, the spring rain nourishes, and God's miraculous engineering unfold.
It's a lot like our lives.
We speak Truth into those around us

French Fillet Green Beans are our favorite.
We have 4 rows of them!

Tenderette Green Beans produce later in the season & longer than the French Fillet.
We have those too.
Hopefully soon, green shoots of:

Radishes Peas Lettuce Green Onions Onions Cucumbers Pumpkins Corn Green Beans Brussel Sprouts
Potatoes

Will be popping!

There it is, minus the tomatoes, peppers & herbs.
Those will be going in today or tomorrow.
Now, to keep the weeds down...
Any suggestions?

A planting tutorial

I've started to plant a few flowers here and there.
And boy do I have a great helper!
She'll show you today how to do it...

First you make a little whole for your flowers to go in.
Then ya gotta fling a little dirt, it gets in the way sometimes.
Next tip um' upside down, and tap, tap, tap.
Then, plop the flowers in the whole and press the dirt back around.

Perfect!
What kind of flower's you ask?
Petunia's.
Color? PINK of course.
Picked out by my little helper.

Spring To Do & Thoughts...

I really like this time of year. The grass and bushes are coming to life, bulbs are popping, the windows can be open, and things feel fresh again. It puts me in the mood to dig in and clean inside and out. I have quite the list started...

  • Clean Windows I've done 2 already and it is crystal clear out those windows...only a bazillion to go...
  • Wash Screens
  • Wash Curtains
  • Sort Clothes
  • Wipe Walls
  • Clean Lights started! but many more to go, maybe I should do two rooms of windows and lights a day, it wouldn't seem near as daunting...
  • Clean Flower Beds
  • Trim Bushes started! I am aiming to do one area of the yard a day
  • Hack Evergreen Bushes, they are enormous! I'm trying to decide if I should keep them or replace them. The issue of replacing them is I have not a clue what to plant in place of them. They are in front of our wrap around porch. Any suggestions?
  • Weed
  • Put Straw on Strawberry patch
  • Order Summer Work Books
  • Clean Garage; put winter clothes away, organize
  • Clean Chicken Shed, we're getting chickens!
What is on your Spring List?

Lovin' the outdoors

Our weather has been amazing the last few days. We have clouds today, but hey, it's March in the Midwest and any sunny 60 degree day is worth a few cloudy cooler ones.

Ashlynn loves to swing and be outside. She kicks her feet when we head out the door and smiles nonstop. Babies are so fun.
Look, the grass is even starting to green!
There is something about fresh spring air that lights the soul on fire....
The dog even has an extra spring in her step!
And a happy, spring smile on her face.

Ahh, the warmth of the sun makes me SO happy!

The freedom is great
