Quiet reading~
hard books, picture books, activity books
Drawing~
colors, pencils, water paints
High Chair time~
sorting activities (blocks, food, noodles...), drawing for young littles, snack time
Kitchen sink water play for older littles~
float boats, pour with cups, stir bubbles...
This year my 18 mo old is having daily 'quiet crib time'.
Last year she wasn't mobile and on the go. She would sit quietly and play on a blanket. This year is a different story, she is a mischievous little climber, runner, dumper. I wondered a bit how she would like her crib time. My initial thought was to start with 10 minutes and slowly work up to 30 -40 minutes. But I didn't need to. She really enjoys it!
She gets 4-5 books and one toy.

Here she is, happy and smiling after 30 minutes.
I like all of my children to have a quiet reading time. It helps with so many things: sitting quietly in church, longer rides in the car, it teaches them to focus, it directs their energy, & it provides a breather for mom! My older children can sit in their rooms, on a couch, in a dry tub with pillows, on my bed (a special treat) or on the porch. They read anywhere from 30 mintues to one hour.

Up to an hour of quiet reading time for your children??? That's awesome! I just bookmarked you. I'll definitely be back!
Tiff
you're doing a great job, mom!
(my kids have all had quiet times in our day since our oldest was very young too- and as a result, of that and other lifestyle choices, our kids sit well through church and other events like it. they also typically don't act like baboons in public and restaurants. then, people constantly tell me "my kids could never do that" or, "your kids are so low-key!" etc. which REALLY irks me! because my kids are no more capable of it than any other average child! it's just a choice in how they are trained. ahem. do you know what i mean?!)
I couldn't agree more. This didn't go over with my daughter as she didn't like to be confined, however she had wonderful quiet time on the couch with books and such. I think it's an excellent idea and teaches them to entertain themselves!
