The Joy's of Homeschooling

Last minute road trip with dad, allowing us to do this...

Splash in the pool when it's 15* outside
Water slides in the winter
Remember what 84* feels like

Play in the toddler pool
And, take a little snooze on the Lazy River.

Yes, homeschooling has it's perks.

Our God is Amazing

I first saw these pictures here, at Savvy Little Women.
I was in awe!
Look at the detail, and intricate design of each object.
Do you know what the pictures are?
They are snowflakes under a microscope.
Aren't they AMAZING!!!
Each snowflake is unique, created by an amazing God.
The cool thing is, before Christmas we started studying snowflakes. These pictures show {my children} up close views of them.
I am excited to continue our study about snowflakes. It is especially fun when we have fresh snow outside to look at, hopefully soon!

The site the pictures are taken from is Wired Science, be sure to check it out.
So Cool!!

Fun with Cups

Need an in door activity?
My kids played with Dixie cups for 2 hours last week.
They made pyramids, went bowling and built towers.
Then they put clementines on top and at the corners,
and took pictures.

Oh the simple things :)

Regular old Monday

A little school work, dressed as a princess of course.
.Concentration.
Math, 'oh joy', he thinks.

And because we have so much snow,
sledding has become a daily activity.

That little girl amazes me with her adventurous spirit.
He is getting pretty good at boarding.
Sledding on a new birthday tube.
It goes fast!
'J Cool' boarding with his glasses.
What's up with that anyway?

Mom even sleds, but sorry, no pictures.
Everyone was too busy sledding to take any of me :)
Are you enjoying the snow?

Did you take the quiz from yesterday?
It's not too late!

Edible Bird Feeders

When it looks like this outside
your bird friends will be happy for these.
How to:
Thin peanut butter with Karo syrup and slightly warm.
Spread onto a sugar cone.

Roll the cone in bird seed.
Place finished cones in Evergreen trees between the branches or use a hot glue gun to fasten on a string then hang from a branch.

TIPS:
Glue the string on before coating with peanut butter.
Hang them outside a window where your children can watch the birds eat.

Winter health

Drink a lot of water. The more hydrated your body is, the better it can fight off cold/flu bugs.

For a cough and sore throat take warm tea with honey and fresh squeezed lemon. Honey coats the throat and the lemon will break up the mucus.

Sinus problems or stuffy head? Boil oregano in a pot of water on your stove. Breathe in the air for 10 - 12 minutes. Repeat as necessary.
I sometime boil a pot for several hours on the stove while we are working on school in the kitchen. If the case is sever, directly breathe in the steam by covering your head with a towel over the pot, be very careful doing this, you don't want to get a steam burn.

Get enough sleep. A run down body can't fight off disease as well as a well rested one can.

Eat yogurt, kefir or take a Probiotic, especially if you are taking antibiotics. 80% of the bodies immune system is found in the intestine. Antibotics kill the good and the bad bacteria in your body. You need to replace the good bacteria the antibiotic has killed. My children and I eat yogurt/kefir daily and take a Probiotic several times a week. It is amazing how this 'little' thing has kept us healthier!

Elderberry has been found more helpful than echinacea in stimulating the immune system to help ward off the flu.

Ginger is a great herb to calm an upset stomach. For children try ginger chews or ginger tea, if you reach for Ginger Ale or Ginger Snaps, go the the natural ones with real ginger.

WW Flashback in time & winter activity

*******

Has winter got the best of you & your children?
Do you need a cheap, fun indoor activity?
You're children will love this...
Lay down an old sheet and pop popcorn with the lid off!
Give them hats, bowls or cups to catch the popcorn. The one with the most popped kernels wins.

Warn your children not to get too close to the popper, grease may spurt.

Swimming

Do you ever take your children swimming in the winter?
It makes a great PE field trip and helps to burn off a little cabin fever.

So dig out your suits and go have some fun!

More fun in the snow

Have you been out sledding yet? It's a daily activity at our house.
I love the snow and am thankful for the amount we have.
It makes winter more enjoyable.

My children could spend all afternoon sledding.

Wheeeee.....
Even mom likes to sled.
